QUALIFIED FAMILY THERAPIST, ACCREDITED, EXPERIENCED
Meet Maria Carreon, your Calgary family therapist
Hi! I’m Maria, a family and child therapist at The Therapeutic Way in Calgary, with over 7+ years of experience, working with family across Alberta. I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and Canadian Certified Counsellor and a family reunification specialist.
My approach to therapy is known to be gentle, non-judgmental style that helps people feel genuinely seen and supported. I always bring some humour to sessions as life is hard already!
I have supported many families through hardships, reconnection, and conflict resolution. With children and teens, I use age appropriate and creative techniques to support them in therapy.
Family reunification therapy in Calgary
Reconnecting after a rupture takes patience, safety and a guide who won't rush anyone. Maria specializes in helping families find a way back toward each other, at a pace everyone can manage.
Reunification work starts with preparation: each person is heard first, goals are set together, and contact is rebuilt gradually. Reconnection is never forced and outcomes can't be guaranteed, but families often find the first honest conversation is the hardest and the most important. This is therapy, not a legal or custody assessment. It may involve court orders and collaboration with legal professionals.
For families seeking reconnection without court involvement, traditional family therapy may be a more appropriate option.

Estranged adult family
Adult children, parents or siblings who want to understand what happened and decide what reconnection could look like.

Reunification therapy is a specialized, structured therapeutic process designed to help repair strained or disrupted parent-child relationships, often following separation, divorce, prolonged conflict, or family estrangement.

For families seeking reconnection without court involvement, traditional family therapy may be a more appropriate option.
