Approach

  • As you are unique, we use theories, techniques, skills from a variety modalities to address your specific needs and to help you reach your goals.

  • The holistic approach to therapy acknowledges the vital role of the body in our emotional and psychological well-being. It engages with the whole person, integrating your thoughts, behaviours and physical (body/somatic) symptoms and blend mind and body healing approaches in the therapeutic process.

You will become the expert of your own mind and body.

  • 1. We collaborate with you in your treatment plan.

    2. We provide a safe and judgment-free place for you to feel supported.

    3. We screen for trauma, and use trauma informed approaches to help you.

    1. The therapeutic relationship between you and your therapist is the foundation of our practice and therapy. It is marked by warmth, supportive, safe, effective and ethical care.

    2. We place a strong focus on the relationship you had as a child with caregivers, with yourself, and with others.

Paradoxically,

Change Comes With Acceptance

Treatment Methods

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT is a structured therapy that can help you be aware of negative thinking patterns/behaviours and help you see and act in situations in a more effective way. By focusing on the problem and discussing your goals, you will be taught skills and techniques which you can use outside of the sessions. You may be given exercises “aka homework” to try at home to enhance the skills taught in sessions.

Gottman Method for Couples Therapy

The Gottman Method for couples therapy is based on over 40 years of extensive research with over 3000 couples, conducted by Drs. John and Julie Gottman. It uses structured and practical interventions and encompasses different treatment methods which can help you in numerous ways. The focus is on developing skills to manage conflicts, enhancing friendships, and having a system of shared meanings together. Learn more

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

DBT was originally developed to treat Borderline Personality Disorder. But because of the multifaceted nature of this therapy, it has been effective in treating other mental health disorders. This is a skills based therapy where you will learn about mindfulness, tolerating negative emotions/situations, regulating your emotions, and improving personal relationships.

Trauma Informed Therapy

Trauma-Focus Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (TF-CBT) can help children, adolescents, adults, parents, and caregivers who have been impacted by trauma. It uses CBT principles and exposure techniques to help treat trauma related mental health problems. Each individual (child and/or caregivers) will be taught specific skills to help them cope with the aftermath of a trauma.

Narrative Therapy

Based on the idea that our lives are a series of stories we create. Narrative therapy can help you gain perspective on your issues, strengthen the stories to make impactful changes, and re-write better narratives. A quote that best describes Narrative Therapy is: The problem is the problem, the person is not the problem.

– Michael White and David Epston

Interpersonal Psychotherapy

IPT focuses on relieving your symptoms to improve your current interpersonal relationships and functioning. It is a structured therapy that can help with communication, conflicts, life changes, grief & loss, attachment issues, and difficulty starting and sustaining relationships. It can help with mood disorders, depression, anxiety, substance use and more.

Somatic Therapy

Trauma lives in the body not the event. - Peter Levine

Somatic therapy, also known as body-centered therapy, recognizes the connection between the mind and the body. Somatic therapy utilizes various techniques breath work, movement exercises, and body scans. These approaches helps in regulating your nervous system, release tension and stored emotions, and increase your capacity for self-regulation. By engaging the body in therapy, somatic approaches can help with the nonverbal aspects of our experiences.

Solution Brief Focus Therapy

As its name, SFBT is a strength based therapy, where more time is dedicated in searching for a solution and less time focusing on the problem. This type of therapy is best suited for clients who can attend only a limited amount of sessions, hence the word "brief" in its name. It is a short-term, goal-focused approach where more time is focused on the present and future and less time on the past.

Mindfulness-Based Interventions

Mindfulness involves paying attention to your present moment on purpose without any judgments. Mindfulness interventions can be taught by itself or incorporated with other treatment modalities. It has been shown to be effective in treating various mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, mood disorders, bipolar disorder, and more.
