What brings couples to therapy in Calgary?
Couples reach out at very different points: some are stuck in the same argument, others are rebuilding after a hard season or deciding what comes next. Aisha works with couples navigating:
Ongoing conflict, distance or communication that keeps breaking down
Relational trauma and the effects of past hurt on the relationship
Attachment wounds and patterns carried from childhood
The impact of a partner's narcissistic or emotionally abusive behaviour
Breakup, separation or divorce, including deciding whether to stay together
Family estrangement and strain with extended family
Grief, loss, stress and burnout that spill into the relationship
Anxiety and depression affecting one or both partners
The changes that come with pregnancy, postpartum and new parenthood
You do not need to be in crisis to start. Many couples come because they want to understand each other better.
QUALIFIED COUPLES THERAPIST, ACCREDITED, EXPERIENCED
Meet Aisha, your Calgary couples therapist
Hi! I’m Aisha Khan, a couples therapist at The Therapeutic Way in Calgary, with over 10+ years of experience, working with couples across Alberta. I am a Registered Psychotherapist and Canadian Certified Counsellor. I also works with individuals, families and teens, so I can support the whole picture when your relationship is affected by what each of you is carrying.
My approach is Emotionally Focused Therapy, Gottman-informed, attachment-based. Couples tell me they feel heard, never judged, and leave sessions with something concrete to try at home.
As a couples therapist, I have supported many couples through:
dating and love
relationships/marital issues
infidelity
trauma/PTSD
past hurt and resentment
parenting
sex and intimacy
improving communication and conflict
postpartum and grief and loss
What to expect in Couples Counselling with Aisha?
The first few sessions are about understanding. You each share what brought you in, what has been hardest, and what you hope will be different. From there, you and Aisha agree on goals and a pace that suits you both.
Book a free consultation. A short conversation to ask questions and see whether Aisha feels like the right fit.
Start with the first session. Each partner has space to be heard, and you set goals together.
Sessions are either 50 mins, 75 mins, or 90 mins.
Work on the patterns. Sessions focus on how you communicate, respond to each other under stress, and repair after conflict.
Lasting skills. Consolidate what’s working so the progress holds once you’re out in real life.
